The New York Jets have released veteran defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson.

A first-round pick (30th overall) by the Jets in the 2011 NFL Draft, Wilkerson played in 105 games and made 101 starts. Over his first seven professional seasons, he posted 44.5 sacks, forced 10 fumbles and defensed 28 passes.

Wilkerson was named second-team All-Pro in both 2013 and 2015, and he earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2015 after racking up a career-high 12 sacks.

The 6'4", 315-pounder attended Linden (NJ) High School, then spent a year at Hargrave Military Academy before attending Temple University. He became a first-team All-MAC performer for the Owls, registering 9.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss in 2010 before becoming the fourth Temple player drafted by the Jets.

Wilkerson appeared in 13 games last season, collecting 59 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
