The Jets announced they have hired Kevin Greene as the team's OLBs coach.
A well decorated player and Hall of Fame linebacker, Greene coached the same position for the Packers from 2009-2013. He began his coaching career in 2008 as an intern for the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent three seasons as a player. Greene is most recognizable for his work with Clay Matthews, who quickly became one of the NFL's best pass rushers, racking up 50.5 sacks in his first five seasons. In 2011, Greene won his first Super Bowl as a member of the Packers' 2010-2011 championship team. The Schenectady, NY native decided to step away from coaching in 2014 to spend more time with his family.
Greene spent 15 years in the NFL from 1985-1999 and played for four clubs:
- Los Angeles Rams (1985-1992)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (1993-1995)
- Carolina Panthers (1996)
- San Francisco 49ers (1997)
- Carolina Panthers (1998-1999)
The Auburn product was selected to five Pro Bowls, earning first-team All-Pro honors three times. Greene was the NFC and NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1996 and led the league in sacks on two separate occasions. Greene ranks third on the NFL's all-time sack list, bringing down the quarterback 160 times throughout his career in addition to his 773 tackles and 23 forced fumbles.
