The Jets announced Monday that they have placed QB Bryce Petty on injured reserve and the club has claimed OLB Corey Lemonier off waivers from Detroit.
Petty suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder Saturday against the Patriots while tackling CB Malcolm Butler following a second-quarter turnover. Petty made four starts this season and appeared in five contests, completing 56.4% of his passes for 809 yards with 3 TDs and 7 INTs.
Following the Jets' loss to the Colts in Week 13, head coach Todd Bowles announced that Petty — barring injury — would start the team's final four games. He has opened the past three, but was unable to finish each of the past two contests. The 6'3", 230-pound Petty, a fourth-round pick out of Baylor in 2015, did not play his rookie campaign.
With Geno Smith on injured reserve, the Green & White have Ryan Fitzpatrick and second-round pick Christian Hackenberg as options for Sunday's contest against the Bills. Hackenberg figures to dress for his first time as a pro in Week 17. Fitzpatrick has started 10 contests in 2016, appearing in 13.
In eight games this season with the Browns, Lemonier racked up two sacks. Released by Cleveland on Dec. 15, Lemonier spent a week with the Lions after coming off on waivers. A third-round pick of the 49ers in the 2013 NFL draft, the 6'3", 255-pounder played 46 games for San Francisco while totaling 37 tackles.
