JETS AND STOMP OUT BULLYING NAME ANTHONY G. OF PUBLIC SCHOOL 57 JETS UPSTANDER OF THE WEEK

September 30, 2016 -- The New York Jets and STOMP Out Bullying announced today that Anthony G. of PS 57 in Staten island has been named this week's Jets Upstander of the Week. New for 2016, the New York Jets will lead a new school initiative called "Jets Upstander of the Week." For each of the 16 weeks during the season, the Jets will ask schools to submit a photo and description of a student that is an Upstander. The Jets will highlight one Upstander a week across their social media platforms and on the video boards during home games.
Anthony G. is currently a fifth grader at PS 57. On the morning of the first day of school, as students were lining up, another fifth grade student was already picking on the same child that he bothered all of last school year. He was making fun of the fellow students' sneakers and clothes and began pushing the child to the floor. Anthony G. went over to the aggressor and told him to stop. Anthony helped the "victim" off of the ground, told him to stand next to him in line, sat with him at lunch that day and they have been friends since.
Through the organization's collaboration with STOMP Out Bullying, the Jets have provided educator prevention toolkits to 1,000 schools in the tri-state area at no cost, conducted an anti-bullying educator's symposium, created awareness through a robust PSA campaign and annually host an anti-bullying awareness day at MetLife Stadium on game day.
