Nick Mangold will be playing in his seventh Pro Bowl later this month.
The NFL announced today that Mangold, the Jets' accomplished center, will join in the all-star fun at Aloha Stadium in Hawai'i on Jan. 31. Mangold, a first alternate when the Pro Bowl roster was announced Dec. 22, is replacing Mike Pouncey of the Dolphins.
Thus Mangold is lined up to play in his seventh Pro Bowl. He gained berths in 2008-11 and 2013-14, with starting nods coming in '08, '09, '11 and '14. In 2013 he also was named to the roster as a first alternate.
Mangold's seventh Pro Bowl berth snapped the tie he held with Kevin Mawae for most berths by a Jets center and is one shy of tackle Winston Hill's franchise record of eight all-star games, four for the AFL All-Star Game and four for the Pro Bowl.
Mangold's addition makes it four Jets who have been chosen to perform at the game the week before Super Bowl L. He joins WR Brandon Marshall on offense and DE Muhammad Wilkerson and CB Darrelle Revis on defense. There is no word yet on Wilkerson's availability for the game following the broken bone he suffered in his leg in the season finale at Buffalo.
Another Player Signs Reserve/Future Deal
The Jets have signed DB Kendall James (6'0", 180) to a reserve/future contract. James, who was born in Roselle, NJ, and played his high school ball at Union County Academy of Information & Technology in Scotch Plains, NJ, went to college at Maine and has made NFL stops with the Vikings, Chargers and Browns.
