With the signing of free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets needed to open a space on their 90-player training camp roster, and they did that with the waiving of rookie free agent punter Tom Hackett.
Hackett, the two-time Ray Guy Award winner from Australia by way of the University of Utah, was signed following the 2016 draft.
His departure leaves seventh-round draft choice Lachlan Edwards from Sam Houston State as the only punter on the roster as camp practices begin this afternoon at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, NJ.
