The Jets have signed third-round wide receiver ArDarius Stewart to his rookie contract.
"It's going pretty good. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can as fast as I can," Stewart said recently. "I'm just ready to get in, get deeper into the playbook, and see where it goes."
Stewart (5'11", 204) led Alabama with 864 yards on 54 catches and eight touchdowns, earning All-SEC first-team honors. Of his 54 receptions, 30 went for first downs. In three years for the Crimson Tide, he racked up 129 catches for 1,713 yards (13.4 yards/catch) and 12 TDs.
He arrived as a result of the first of general manager Mike Maccagnan's four tradedowns during last month's draft. The Jets sent their 70th overall pick to Minnesota for the Vikings' 79th pick, with which they picked Stewart. Then they swapped the Vikes' No. 160 for Cleveland's Nos. 181 and 188, with which they selected LB Dylan Donahue and RB Elijah McGuire on day three of the draft.
"ArDarius has toughness for the ball," head coach Todd Bowles has said. "He's tough, he can run routes, he can run with the ball in his hands after the catch, he's a good teams player. He brings a lot of attitude to that side of the ball."
