The Jets (0-7) fell to the Carolina Panthers (4-3), 13-6, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Here are three takeaways from the game.
Defense Allows 13 Points for Second Consecutive Game
The Jets' defense dialed up the pressure for the second consecutive week, limiting the Panthers to 13 points after limiting the Broncos to 13 points a week ago. The Jets kept the Panthers out of the end zone in the second half and surrendered a FG in the third quarter.
"Another low-scoring game where the defense did a hell of a job holding this team to 13 points," HC Aaron Glenn said. "A good amount of three-and-outs, but obviously not good enough. We gave up too many points to allow us to win the game."
Carolina entered the Week 7 matchup coming off back-to-back games with over 200 rushing yards. Panthers RB Rico Dowdle was also coming off two explosive performances, running for 206 and 183 yards over the two recent contests. The Jets held the Panthers to 125 yards on the ground and limited Dowdle's production to fewer less than 100 scrimmage yards. RB Chuba Hubbard was also kept in check in his first game back from injury.
The Jets halted a drive with a fourth-down stop in the second quarter, and the unit forced the Panthers to punt 6 times. CB Brandon Stephens had 2 of the team's 7 pass defenses, and DL Jowon Briggs and LB Jamien Sherwood each recorded a sack.
"Guys just being in the right positions, making it hard for the quarterback to complete throws," Stephens said of the defense's execution. "We did a hell of a job in the run game."
WRs Tyler Johnson & Josh Reynolds, TE Mason Taylor Step Up
The Jets were missing star receiver Garrett Wilson on Sunday, and WRs Tyler Johnson and Josh Reynolds, as well as rookie TE Mason Taylor, stepped up in his absence.
Johnson led the team with 60 receiving yards. Two of his 3 receptions were on third down for 20 and 35 yards, respectively. Reynolds was the most popular target Sunday, hauling in 3 of the 9 passes thrown his way for 29 yards. Taylor recorded 3 catches for 31 yards in the loss.
"We put together a couple drives, ultimately we still have to finish when we get in the red zone," Reynolds said. "When we get past that 50-yard line, we've got to really lock in and keep those penalties in check."

Offense Continues to Search for Answers
The Jets' offense struggled to find a rhythm and the unit was kept out of the end zone for the second consecutive week. QB Tyrod Taylor replaced QB Justin Fields in the second half after Fields completed 6-of-12 passes for 46 yards and took 3 sacks.
The Jets picked up 72 net yards on the ground in the first half, but a 13-3 halftime deficit forced Taylor to throw the ball 22 times in the second half. The Jets only picked up 9 yards on the ground across the final two quarters.
"They're loading the box against the run, sometimes putting nine people in the box," HC Aaron Glenn said. "In order to loosen guys up, you have to be efficient to some degree in the passing game and that hasn't showed up the last two games. That's something I have to take a look at."
RB Breece Hall led the team with 38 rushing yards in the game, and he added 2 receptions for 14 yards.
"[We] just haven't been playing our brand of football," Hall said. "Haven't been able to establish the run the last few weeks well enough to sustain it and keep running the ball. And that starts with me as well, I'm not perfect. … I love my teammates enough to just keep going, keep playing with each other."
