A weekend after we extended well wishes to Greg McElroy, who had announced his retirement from football, we offer our congratulations today for his new career move, as he has joined ESPN as a college football analyst for the SEC Network that will launch on Aug. 14.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the ESPN family," G-Mac said in ESPN's news release on the hire, which we suspect was part of McElroy's decision to hang up the pads after two-plus seasons with us and last season on the Bengals' practice squad. "College football has always been one of my greatest passions, and I am tremendously grateful for the opportunity to take part in the launch of the SEC Network. The SEC provided me with five of the best years of my life."
The network's growing roster of experts appears to be a fine landing spot for ex-New York QBs as he joins analysts Tim Tebow and Jesse Palmer, along with network commentators Paul Finebaum, Brent Musburger and Joe Tessitore. McElroy and Tebow, Jets teammates in 2012, were also back-to-back SEC MVPs in '08 and '09.
