The Jets have completed an interview with Arthur Smith for their head coach position.
Smith, 42, is currently in his first season as the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator and his 16th year in the NFL coaching ranks.
Under Smith's guidance, the Steelers went 10-7 in the 2024 season and reached the postseason for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Their offense improved in total points, yards and turnovers from 2023 to 2024.
Before joining Pittsburgh, Smith was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons for three seasons (2021-23), the Titans' offensive coordinator for two seasons (2019-20) after eight seasons with Tennessee in a variety of roles (TEs coach, assistant TEs coach, OL coach, offensive & defensive quality control coach) and a Washington defensive quality control coach (2010).
During his tenure in Atlanta, the Falcons posted three consecutive 7-10 seasons, two third-place finishes in the NFC South and one last-place finish. In 2023, Atlanta eclipsed 400 total yards of offense on six occasions, tied for the fourth-most in single-season franchise history.
In 2019, the Titans went 9-7 and reached the AFC Championship game. The team ranked No. 10 in points and No. 12 in total yards. Smith was praised for his play-calling in their 28–12 road victory over the top-seeded Tennessee Titans.
In 2020, Smith oversaw the highest-scoring Titans team in 16 years. Derrick Henry rushed for a career-high 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns while Ryan Tannehill threw a career-best 33 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. The Titans ranked fourth in scoring and second in total yards and went 11-5 to earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs.
Prior to joining the NFL, Smith was a defensive intern and administrative assistant for Ole Miss (2007-08) and a graduate assistant at North Carolina (2006).
Jets Chairman Woody Johnson is leading the searches for a head coach and general manager. He hired The 33rd Team in a support role to help identify and vet candidates in addition to coordinate interviews.
