TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins came off the NFL's suspended list and returned to practice this past week. Today he's active for his first game of the season, the Jets' home opener against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium.
And head coach Todd Bowles has named Seferian-Jenkins one of his gameday captains.
Bowles on Friday previewed the possibility of ASJ returning to active duty, saying, "He's in running shape, he's getting the plays down a little more, and there's some things he may be able to do if we have him active."
With Bowles on Friday having declared RG Brian Winters out, Dakota Dozier, who filled in after Winters injured his abdomen at Oakland, will get the start.
In other inactive-list-related news, LB Bruce Carter (ankle) and C Jonotthan Harrison (concussion), both inactive last week, are active for the Dolphins.
Newly signed LB David Bass is also active.
At QB, Bryce Petty will back up starter Josh McCown, with Christian Hackenberg inactive.
The Jets' full inactive list:
■ QB Christian Hackenberg
■ WR Chad Hansen
■ CB Derrick Jones
■ S Rontez Miles
■ G Brian Winters
■ TE Eric Tomlinson
■ TE Jordan Leggett
And the Dolphins' inactives:
■ CB Cordrea Tankersley
■ CB Torry McTyer
■ LB Rey Maualuga
■ G Isaac Asiata
■ T Eric Smith
■ T Sam Young
■ DT Jordan Phillips
Bowles has named five gameday captains for today's home opener: Seferian-Jenkins, G James Carpenter, LB Darron Lee, DL Muhammad Wilkerson and K Chandler Catanzaro.
The Jets are wearing their green jerseys and white pants with green socks. They're 6-4 in green/white, all home games, under Bowles since 2015.
Terry McAulay is the referee. This is McAulay's 15th Jets game as referee since 2001.
