The New York Jets have announced that they have released quarterback Mark Brunell and waived cornerback Will Billingsley and guard Marlon Davis. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Brunell (6'1", 217), a three-time Pro Bowler over 18 seasons with the Packers, Jaguars, Saints and Jets, has thrown for 32,045 yards and 184 touchdowns and rushed for 2,421 yards and 15 touchdowns during his career.
He played in two games for the Jets in 2010, throwing for 117 yards and two touchdowns, one year after playing for the Super Bowl champion Saints. He was selected in the fifth round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the Packers and spent two years in Green Bay before being traded to Jacksonville in 1995.
Billingsley (5'10", 195) was signed to the Jets practice squad on Oct. 27, 2010, was released from the practice squad on Nov. 20, then signed a reserve/future contract on Jan. 10. He spent two seasons on Miami's practice squad before being released in December 2009. He initially signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in April 2008. He played three seasons and 26 games at North Carolina A&T and totaled 109 tackles, two interceptions and 10 passes defensed.
Davis (6'2", 309) signed with the Jets on May 13, 2010, was placed on injured reserve Aug. 16, and waived Sept. 4, then was signed to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 10. He originally signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in May 2009 before being waived in September that year. He played four years for Alabama, starting 26 of 38 games
