The Jets announced today that the Jets Flight Crew Cheerleaders have been invited to represent the NFL on a trip to Mexico and are headed to Mexico City today.
Eight members of the team's cheerleading squad are traveling to Mexico City for eight days of appearances as ambassadors of the league. The appearances range from visits to patients at a physical rehabilitation center to meet-and-greets at conventions, holiday celebrations and Mexico City landmarks. NewYorkJets.com will feature blogs from cheerleaders on the trip and the team's Twitterand Facebook pages will have daily updates and video from Mexico.
In recent weeks, Mexico has also come to the Jets. When they hosted the Cincinnati Bengals this past Thursday on Thanksgiving night, the First Lady of Mexico, Mrs. Margarita Zavala, served as honorary captain for the game. The First Lady toured the building and met with head coach Rex Ryan and quarterback Mark Sanchez before watching from team owner Woody Johnson's box as the Jets improved to 9-2 on the season with their 26-10 victory.
Also, Fox Sports Latin America will be airing a two-part special on the New York Jets premiering Dec. 12, broadcast across all of Central and South America. On a recent visit to the New York/New Jersey area, the Fox Sports LATAM crew explored the culture and landmarks of the region with the Jets Flight Crew, took in the Jets-Texans game at New Meadowlands Stadium and interviewed members of the organization, including Johnson. The special will be re-aired the week leading up to Super Bowl XLV.
Earlier this season, the Jets celebrated Hispanic Heritage Day at their new stadium when they hosted the Patriots on Sept. 19. In addition to cultural activities and pregame and halftime entertainment that featured singer Adrienne Bailón and the Puerto Rican a cappella sextet NOTA, the Jets hosted groups from El Primer Paso and the Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs (MCOHA). As part of Hispanic Heritage Month and the NFL's annual Hometown Huddle, the Jets donated and completed installation for a fitness zone at El Primer Paso in Dover, N.J., on Oct. 5.
