Green & White alumni from all over Jets nation are chiming in on the signing of Aaron Glenn as the new head coach of the Jets. And no bigger alum is all over the AG hire than No. 12 residing these days in Florida.
"I'm hoping all nyjets fans are as thrilled as my family and I are that Aaron Glenn is our new Head Coach," Joe Namath tweeted shortly after the return of Glenn to his Jets family was announced Wednesday. "I wish the season would start next week."
Here are more quick reactions from many of Aaron's former Jets teammates from his playing days of 1994-2001 that came in today. In the coming days we'll hear personal stories from Victor Green, Ray Mickens, Vinny Testaverde and Laveranues Coles in short features leading up to Glenn's introductory news conference at One Jets Drive on Monday.
Safety Chris Hayes, Glenn's Jets DB mate for five seasons, was one of the members of the Green & White secondary to wish AG all the best.
"I can't express through words how excited I am to see AG coaching the Green & White," Hayes told newyorkjets.com. "He was a terror as a player on the football field and with that same mentality has proven to be a successful defensive coordinator and now a head coach. I definitely plan on coming to New York to watch a couple games this year. Go Jets!!!"
Several formidable ex-linebackers who often lined up alongside each other and in close proximity to Glenn on the corner chimed in.
"Congrats to the young fella after 8 years of playing together," former LB and teammate Marvin Jones said on Facebook. " 'Bout time we hire one of our own."
"Congratulations on being hired as the new Head Coach of the New York Jets," Mo Lewis said. "Your long hours, attention to details and hard work have paid off. Good Luck this season and GO Jets!!"
Former first-round LB James Farrior, a Jet and former Glenn playing partner, offered similar sentiments: "I am blessed to have played with him. He was one of the first teachers I had in my early years that showed me what being a pro is all about. Did everything the right way, led by example. No doubt in my mind he will make the Jets a better team. They definitely got this one right. Congrats, brother. Wishing you nothing but continued success!"
Another defensive player on the AG Train was Leger Douzable, the former DL who has been an analyst for recent newyorkjets.com shows.
"Before Darrelle Revis, the corner that everybody looked up to for the New York Jets was Aaron Glenn," Douzable said in an X(Twitter) video. "He's going to bring that tenacity that he played with, he's going to change the culture. ... I go back to when [Detroit HC] Dan Campbell had him speak during 'Hard Knocks' to not only the players and the coaches but the front office people. I've never seen that room more engaged than when Aaron Glenn was talking.
"He will command the room. He is a leader of men. I cannot wait for him to get this going."
The offensive side of the ball, not to be outdone, had similar stirring sentiments about Glenn occupying the big office on the first floor of the Atlantic Health Training Center.
"Aaron was a leader on our defense and a great teammate who made players around him better," Kevin Mawae, Pro Football Hall of Fame and Jets Ring of Honor center, said in a statement. "I have proudly watched his ascension through the coaching ranks of the NFL and am not surprised by his success. He will be a great choice for Gang Green and bring pride back to the Meadowlands for fans and former players alike."
"Aaron Glenn is a great hire!" former Green & White FB Jerald Sowell said. "He checks all the boxes when it comes to his character, his leadership, his ability to motivate, his preparation and his ability to win. He definitely played under the two best coaches of all time, [Bill] Parcells and [Bill] Belichick. I think he will do well as the head coach of the NY Jets!"

WR Keyshawn Johnson, who played on Glenn's Jets teams from 1996-99, also weighed in with a Key observation: "I'm so excited. Can't wait for the season to start so I can come to many games and support my great friend!"
After starting this story with a quote from the face of the Jets in Namath, we'll conclude with comments from two more distinguished if short-lived Jets quarterbacks who were Aaron Glenn compadres.
Boomer Esiason, the WFAN 660 morning cohost and the Jets QB who in 1994-95 wore the green and white along with Glenn, tweeted before the signing that "as a former teammate of his, I pray he gets his shot." But he also sounded a cautionary note, not about Glenn but about the maelstrom this first-year head coach with a defensive background is about to enter. Before and after the signing, Esiason said the Jets job "is a beast and more demanding than anybody realizes."
Glenn Foley, with Boomer and Aaron on the 1994-95 Jets and then a Jets QB for three more seasons after that, was exclamation-point excited about the fit.
"Aaron Glenn was the most humble first-round pick I've ever met," Foley said. "We came in together in '94! He worked harder at his craft than anyone. He was the first cornerback I ever played with that would 'pick my brain' as a quarterback! He was constantly asking me questions!! A student of his craft!! ... He is no-nonsense!! ... Perfect fit for the Jets organization. Great man with high integrity and intelligence."
