Transcript of a selected Jets player interview following Friday's midday practice:.
WR JERRICHO COTCHERY
On if Laveranues Coles will play against Miami Sunday...
I really don't know what the situation is going to be with him. All I know is he is a guy that if he's hurt, he is going to work extremely hard to get back. I don't know if he's going to be able to go or not. Hopefully he can go. It would help us out as a team.
On playing against close friend Chad Pennington...
If I was going against my mother and she was on the opposite team, I'm still trying to win [laughs]. She knows that. When I'm on the field I'm trying to win and I'm trying to help my teammates get everything accomplished. After the game, we'll shake hands. We'll hug and talk about life. When we're on the field, all bets are off.
On seeing Pennington on the opposite sideline...
It's going to be very weird. We had been with him for a long time. He's a great guy. He's done a lot for this organization and for a lot of players in this locker room. We're just wishing him the best, but obviously we want to win this game.
On playing against Pennington in the season opener...
We knew when we parted ways with Chad that this could be a situation that presented itself. We knew that a lot of teams were going to be after him because he's a great leader and a great quarterback. He has won a lot of games. We knew that this situation could happen so we prepared for it. We're going to have a lot of fun out there on Sunday. Hopefully we can come out and set the tone for the season.
On if opening day ever gets old...
No, that's the best part of the NFL. I remember coming in as a rookie and they had the Jets flying across the stadium right there on our field. The juice was going. They get going and it never gets old.
On if he'll say anything to Pennington after the game...
I'm pretty sure everyone in this locker room will be trying to get a word into Chad after the game. Like I said, he has had a positive influence on everyone in this locker room. Everyone is a friend of his.
