The New York Jets have announced that Wayne Demikoff of Wayne Hills High School in Wayne, N.J., has been named this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, Demikoff will receive $1,000 to benefit the school's football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.
The award, in its 18th year, is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Demikoff is in his first season as the head coach of the Patriots after serving 14 years as an assistant coach, the last seven as the defensive coordinator at the school. He was on the staff during Wayne Hills' North I, Group 3 championship teams in 2002, '04, '05, '06, '07, '08, '10 and '11. Demikoff earned his B.A. degree in history from Rutgers University. He taught history for 17 years at Belleville High School before taking a history teaching position at Wayne Hills in September 2013.
On Friday, Wayne Hills opened the season with a come-from-behind 17-14 victory over the Northern Highland Highlanders. The Patriots' next game will be at home Friday, Sept. 20th at 7 p.m. when they face the Wayne Valley Indians.
