The Jets have completed an interview with Jeff Hafley for their head coach position.

Hafley, a New Jersey native, was hired as the Green Bay Packers' defensive coordinator last January. In the 2024-25 regular season, the 'Pack finished No. 3 in rush yards/play (3.96), No. 4 in takeaways (31) and No. 5 overall (314.5 yds/g).

"I thought there was an incredible amount of growth, to be honest with you, in terms of maybe a vision of what we wanted to do and where we went to were kind of two different things," said Matt LaFleur in his season-ending news conference. "But I think that's good coaching, right? You make the necessary adjustments, and you put your guys in position and then ultimately those guys gotta go out there and execute. I thought Hafley did an outstanding job, and it's not just Haf, it's our entire defensive staff did a really good job with that."

Prior to his move to Green Bay, Hafley served as the head coach at Boston College from 2020-23 where he led the Eagles to a 22-26 overall record with three bowl game invitations. Hafley also spent one season as co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach at Ohio State University in 2019, helping the Buckeyes finish No. 1 in total defense (259.7 yds/g) and sacks (54).

In 2012, Hafley made his NFL coaching debut as the assistant defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then coached the defensive backs for Tampa (2013), Cleveland (2014-15) and San Francisco (2016-18).

Hafley started his coaching career in college in 2002 as running backs coach at Worcester Polytechnic (2001). He spent the next nine seasons as a defensive assistant or defensive backs coach at Albany (2002-05), Pittsburgh (2006-10) and Rutgers (2011). At Pittsburgh, Hafley helped mentor CB Darrelle Revis, who was selected in the first round (No. 14) overall in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Jets. Revis was inducted into the Jets Ring of Honor in 2022 and went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2023.

Hafley, who attended Pascack Hills in Montvale, NJ , was a four-year letter winner as a wide receiver at Sienna College. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in history in 2001 and two years later earned a master's degree from the University at Albany, SUNY.

Jets Chairman Woody Johnson is leading the searches for a head coach and general manager. He hired The 33rd Team in a support role to help identify and vet candidates in addition to coordinate interviews.
