First-year general manager Darren Mougey said at the NFL Combine that he and the Jets "feel good about ... our eight picks that we have right now going into the draft." Those selections weren't a secret, but it's always important to get confirmation from the official list of selections, which the NFL released for all teams today.
Those eight Jets picks fall with fairly little fanfare this offseason. Their first five slots are all their own selections after their 5-12 finish last season and run from No. 7 overall to No. 145. They hold two of the top 42 positions and three of the top 73. Not earthshaking spots in the draft order but still well-positioned for the assembly of the Jets' first draft class under the direction of Mougey, head coach Aaron Glenn and their staffs.
The Jets also have their own sixth-round selection. And they have two other Day 3 picks at this year's draft festivities being staged April 24-26 in Green Bay.
Their second of two fifth-rounders, 148th overall, comes from the Los Angeles Rams via the Steelers in the November trade for WR Mike Williams. And their second of two sixth-rounders, No. 191, comes from Kansas City as part of the October 2023 trade for WR Mecole Hardman.
The Green & White also had a second third-round pick, No. 92, which came from the Lions in a draft-day trade of selections last April. But the Jets sent that choice to Las Vegas in the October trade for WR Davante Adams. And they sent their seventh-rounder to the Chiefs in the Hardman trade.
At the moment, the Jets' eight selections are their most in any draft since they spent 10 picks in 2021. But as Mougey said, specifically regarding the seventh overall selection but presumably for all picks: "We're going to be open to potentially moving up for a player or moving back. All those options are on the table right now."
