The Jets have acquired RB Daryl Richardson off waivers from the St. Louis Rams, answering the question some fans have had after the draft about if we were going to add anyone to our offensive backfield.
Richardson (5'10", 192) was St. Louis' seventh-round selection(No. 252 overall, or the next-to-last choice) of the 2012 draft. He played 23 games for the Rams the past two years (three starts, all last year) and for his career has 167 rushes for 690 yards (4.1 yards/carry) and 38 receptions for 284 yards (7.5 yards/catch). He has yet to score his first NFL touchdown.
Richardson, who is a cousin of current Jets WR Clyde Gates, joins the RBs meeting room that now holds Chris Johnson, Bilal Powell, Chris Ivory, Mike Goodson and Alex Green.
And he lends a little more potential running prowess as well — ignoring number of carries, our six RBs have accounted for nine seasons of at least 4.5 yards per carry (Ivory 4, Johnson 2, Goodson 2, and Richardson's 4.8 on 98 carries as a STL rookie).
