The Jets signed their second unrestricted free agent wide receiver Tuesday, adding Jacoby Ford to a WR corps that has already been bolstered by the arrival of Eric Decker. A threat in space, Ford could also have the opportunity to become the Jets' primary kickoff return man.
Ford will be reunited with former Raiders WR coach Sanjay Lal here with the Green & White. A fourth-round pick of the Raiders (No. 108 overall) in the 2010 NFL draft, the 5'9", 190-pound Ford has averaged 14.9 yards on his 57 career receptions. He also has four career kick return touchdowns and set a Raiders single-season record with three in 2010.
Last season, Ford caught 13 balls for 99 yards in Oakland. He also had the first nine punt returns of his career, averaging 8.6 yards. The speedster ran a 4.28-second 40-yard dash at the 2010 scouting combine and a 4.126 at the Fork Union (Va.) College Coaches Combine in 2005.
At Clemson, Ford amassed 4,083 all-purpose yards while averaging 85.1 yards per contest. His 143 receptions, 1,986 receiving yards and 16 TD catches rank sixth, eighth and tied for fourth in school annals.
