The New York Jets have named Mike Scarpelli of Clarkstown South High School in West Nyack, NY this week's recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week award presented by Gatorade. Through Gatorade's partnership, the monetary award to benefit the school's football program has doubled to $2,000. Coach Scarpelli will receive a Gatorade kit, containing a cooler, fuel bars, Gatorade powder mix, squeeze bottles and much more. Along with this award, Clarkstown South High School receives an automatic bid to compete in the 2019 New York Jets 7on7 Tournament. In addition, he is invited to watch the New York Jets play the Green Bay Packers on December 23rd from a luxury suite at MetLife Stadium, where he will be presented with a certificate and an award ball.
In its 23rd year, the Coach of the Week award is given to a coach in the tri-state area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Coach Scarpelli is a 1992 graduate of Clarkstown South High School. While in high school, Scarpelli played running back and defensive back. After graduating high school, Scarpelli attended Manhattan College. After graduating from Manhattan College in 1996, Scarpelli earned his master's degree at Hofstra University. While in graduate school, Scarpelli began coaching at Horace Mann School, where he was eventually named head coach of in 1998. After a three-year coaching stint at Tappan Zee High School, Scarpelli was named head football coach of Clarkstown South in 2002. In addition to his coaching duties, Scarpelli serves as the President of the Section One Coaches Association and teaches physical education at Clarkstown South.
On Friday, October 19th, the Clarkstown South Vikings defeated the Fox Lane Foxes 42-6, in the opening round of the Section I playoffs. Their record is now 8-0, as the Vikings take on the Rye Garnets in the second round of the playoffs on Friday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m.
