Jets Hire Corey Smith as Strength and Conditioning Coach

Smith Spent Last 2 Seasons With Lions; Held Numerous College Positions, Including at Texas, Texas Tech, Memphis and Missouri

The Jets have hired Corey Smith as their new head of strength and conditioning.

Smith was the Lions' assistant strength and conditioning coach for the last two seasons where he overlapped with Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. Prior to working in Detroit, he spent one season at Abilene Christian University in Texas as the team's associate AD for strength and conditioning. He was promoted from director of football strength and conditioning shortly after he joined the program.

Smith had college stints with Texas Tech, Texas, Memphis, Missouri, Iowa and Illinois State, his alma mater. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in kinesiology and exercise science before he received his Master's degree in health and sport science from Memphis.

Smith, who completed a football strength and conditioning internship at Iowa in the summer of 2012, volunteered with the athletic department's strength and conditioning program his senior year at Illinois State. Between his time with school as a student and an employee, he worked with the football, men's basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, golf, cross country, track and field, men's tennis, swimming and diving programs. He was the senior director of athletic performance for Memphis' and Missouri's football teams.

He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA). Smith, who is from Downers Grove, IL, is also certified in precision nutrition (PN1) and functional range conditioning (FRCms).
