The Jets have signed wide receiver Shane Wynn to the practice squad. To make room on the 10-player squad, the team has released fullback/linebacker Julian Howsare.
Wynn (5'6", 167) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Atlanta in May. In June the Glenville, OH, native was acquired off waivers by the Browns. In the 2015 preseason, he had four receptions for 32 yards, including a 21-yard TD catch from Johnny Manziel, and also returned five punts and two kickoffs for Cleveland. He was a final cut by the Browns on Aug. 31.
Wynn had a distinguished Indiana University career. As a freshman he led the Hoosiers with 1,249 all-purpose yards, including a 99-yard kickoff-return touchdown. As a sophomore he led the team with 68 receptions. His junior season he recorded 14 TDs, including one on a punt return. As a senior team captain, he had a career-high 708 receiving yards and averaged 96.6 all-purpose yards/game.
Howsare (6'3", 255) came to the Jets as an undrafted free agent LB out of Altoona, PA, and Division II Clarion University, where in 43 career games he had 256 tackles, 39 sacks, 57 tackles for loss, three interceptions, 14 pass breakups, nine forced fumbles, two recoveries, and 10 blocked kicks.
This summer Howsare's duties expanded to fullback. He was in for 85 plays in the Jets' four preseason games (55 on offense), started in the preseason finale vs. Philadelphia and had one reception for 6 yards.
