The Jets will kickoff their three-game preseason slate noon Saturday playing host to the Washington Commanders at MetLife Stadium. Twenty-eight players are not expected to play for the Jets including all the projected starters on offense and defense expect for center Joe Tippmann.
With QB Aaron Rodgers on the sideline, veteran signal caller Tyrod Taylor is expected to get the start. Taylor took all the reps with the projected first team during Thursday's joint practice against Washington at the Atlantic Health Training Center. This would be Taylor's first game appearance as a Jet after playing for the Giants the past 2 seasons, including games vs the Jets in the 2022 and 2023 preseason and 2023 regular season.
Rookie QB Jordan Travis will be the only first year player to sit out as he recovers from a leg injury sustained his last season at Florida State. First round pick (No. 11) LT Olu Fashanu, third round pick (No. 65) WR Malachi Corley and the rookie RB duo of Braelon Allen (Rd. 4, No. 134) and Isaiah Davis (Rd. 5, No. 173) are projected to have sizable roles on offense.
On defense, third year pass rusher Michael Clemons, veteran DL Solomon Thomas and offseason acquisition DT Leki Fotu will be active.
On the Washington side, only 11 players do not plan to dress including their Pro Bowl interior defensive line duo of Jonathon Allen and Daron Payne. Both projected starting offensive tackles LT Andrew Wylie and RT Brandon Coleman and veteran offseason additions TE Zach Ertz and six-time First Team All-Pro Bobby Wagner are also not expected to play.
The No. 2 selection in April's NFL Draft QB Jayden Daniels will start for Washington in addition to their top two receivers Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin and third year wideout Jahan Dotson.
