The New York Jets and the New York Film Academy (NYFA) announced today that they have expanded their partnership. They will offer two sports immersion workshops for the NYFA Fall 2013 semester as well as debut two brand new summer photography camps, starting in August amid Jets training camp.
This year's Fall Sports Photography course will once again be taught by team photographer and industry veteran Al Pereira, while the new Sports Broadcasting curriculum will be instructed by Rich Gentile, Jets senior director of broadcasting and multimedia production. The broadcasting initiative, focused on creation and distribution of video content, will provide students with another unique opportunity to develop their knowledge of the sports media industry. Both courses will be offered this fall starting Sept. 9 and interested participants can enroll today at nyfa.edu.
New this summer, the Jets and NYFA will offer two sports photography summer camps. Al Pereira will teach both courses at the team headquarters, the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center, in Florham Park, N.J. The Young Photographers Camp is a one-week program (participants can select from one of two weeks) and is geared toward high school students. The program will include photography instruction during the media period at practice, press conferences and classroom sessions at both the New York Film Academy and Atlantic Health Jets Training Center.
"We are thrilled to grow our partnership with New York Film Academy in our second year," said Jets senior vice president Marc Riccio. "Adding three new courses to the summer and fall helps us to expand the reach of the program, allowing more students to experience sports and film in new and different ways."
The Advanced Photography Camp for Adults also is a one-week program (participants can select from one of two weeks) but is geared toward adults looking to take their sports photography hobby to the next level. The program will include photography instruction during the media period at practice, press conferences and classroom sessions at both the New York Film Academy and Atlantic Health Jets Training Center. In addition, this camp will include two sessions with former Jets players, analyzing the game and its evolution, as well as a special football skills challenge for participants at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center.
The Jets and the NYFA announced in June 2012 the launch of the Sports Media Academy for sports fans and aspiring media professionals in a real-world sports environment. The Sports Media Academy offers students the opportunity to refine their craft and cover the New York Jets at home games, practices, organized team activities, press conferences and other team events.
Pereira, the team's official photographer for more than 15 years, and Gentile, entering his 16th year in the NFL, are Jets employees and industry veterans who, along with the New York Film Academy's award-winning faculty, provide expert instruction in every aspect of the field. They not only will teach specialized techniques but also give insights that can only be learned from decades of professional experience.
