We have placed the franchise tag on placekicker Nick Folk.
Folk in 2013 enjoyed arguably his best season in seven seasons as a pro and four seasons with the Jets. For starters he hit the game-winning field goals in the season opener against Tampa Bay and then at Atlanta and at home in overtime against New England. He remains among the NFL's most accurate fourth-quarter kickers of the past 25 seasons.
Those game-winning kicks were three of the career-high 33 field goals he made in 36 attempts for a career-high 91.7% accuracy, including a perfect 3-for-3 on 50-yards-plus tries. As usual he hit all 27 of his extra-point tries — he's converted all 279 of the regular-season and playoff PATs he's attempted since being drafted by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2007 draft.
Folk last season also broke our franchise records for most consecutive field goals from the start of a season (23) and most consecutive home field goals (20).
For his Jets career, Folk has an 81.1% accuracy on his regular-season field goal tries (103-for-127) and for his career the figure is 80.3% (167-for-208).
He also recorded a career-high 30 touchbacks on his kickoffs, with his season-high five touchbacks helping to win the field-position battle in the Game 5 primetime win over the Falcons.
The last player franchise-tagged by the Jets was LB David Harris in 2011.
