After the Jets and the Texans collide Monday night at MetLife Stadium, make sure you tune in to "Jets Replay" on newyorkjets.com. Our official postgame show is brought to you by your local Tri-State BMW centers.
This contest that will wrap up Week 5 action in the NFL is a huge challenge for the Green & White. If the 2-2 Jets hope to stay within striking distance in the second half against the undefeated Texans, they must play better in the run game on both sides of the ball.
"We have to get back to what we do," said defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. "We have to defend the run. Sometimes we have to do it in a lighter box. That's been the challenge laid out to the guys up front — that we need to play it to our standards."
The Texans, a club that features Arian Foster and employs the zone blocking scheme, average 37 rush attempts an outing. That number ranks 2nd in the NFL — trailing only the Patriots (38.2) and that is a trend we will have to examine further in the future.
Offensively it appears the Jets will again be without the services of both TE Dustin Keller and WR Stephen Hill. So Mark Sanchez's top three targets on the outside figure to be Jeremy Kerley, Chaz Schilens and Clyde Gates. The Jets have to somehow find a way to stay out of 3rd-and-longs because the Texans lead the NFL in third down percentage, allowing teams to convert just 25% of the time.
It will be interesting to see how much playing time Tim Tebow gets as the Jets search for a spark. And the home team has to stay at least level in the turnover department as the Texans are +7 while the Jets are -2.
You will hear from players and coaches on "Replay" as we'll provide a comprehensive wrap of Week 5. In addition to recapping Monday's game with reaction and highlights, we'll analyze the stats and take a look around the NFL.
