Jets' rookie running backs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis set the pace for the Green & White's offense in their first preseason game Saturday. The duo combined for 94 scrimmage yards in one half of action in the 20-17 win over against the Washington Commanders and helped set up the team's first touchdown early in the second quarter.

"We were all really excited to see Allen and Davis run," HC Robert Saleh said. "Braelon didn't disappoint when he got to the second level. It is painful [for the opposition] to just touch the human and it was really cool to see him out in the open field today. We love the two of them and we love that running back room. It has come a long way since the first year we were here. We feel like we have got some legitimate runners between them and all the other guys."

Allen, a fourth-round pick (No. 134) in April's NFL Draft, shook off a slow first quarter, starting the second quarter with a bruising 16-yard run. One play later, he got around the edge set by rookie first-round pick (No. 11) LT Olu Fashanu and picked up 24 yards.

"It always takes me a little bit to get into the flow of the game," Allen said. "My first few carries I was slipping around a bit. The offensive line did a good job of getting to space. … My first few carries I don't always feel like my legs are working like they are supposed to be, and I am stumbling over myself. But the more carries I get, he stronger I get."

The former Wisconsin Badger finished the game with 6 attempts for 54 yards (9 yards per carry) and two explosive runs (carries of 10-plus yards.).

"[Allen] is really big and powerful, and I am a little smaller, but I am a big powerful guy, too." RB Breece Hall told Otis Livingston during a sideline interview for WCBS-TV. "We are going to be a lot for defenses to handle because they are going to have to come up and tackle us a lot. Combine that with me in the pass game and him as a great downhill runner and he will be involved in the screen game, I am just excited to see what we can do. He did really great today."

Davis, a fifth-round selection selection (No. 173), picked up where Allen left off on the first series of the second quarter. Following consecutive carries for short gains by Davis, QB Andrew Peasley flipped a short pass to the South Dakota State product, and he picked up 24 yards to the Washington 12-yard-line.

A play later, Peasley hit second-year WR Jason Brownlee on a fade to the corner of the endzone for a 12-yard touchdown that tied the game at 7-7.

"Had a lot of nerves out there at first, especially on special teams," Davis said. "But I got to run around a little bit, make a couple of plays and celebrate with the guys and got a W, so overall good day."

Davis led the Jets with 4 receptions for 33 yards to go with 4 carries for 8 yards. Additionally, Davis split time with rookie WR Malachi Corley on punt and kick duty returning one kickoff for 29 yards and two punts.

"Overall, I think everything went pretty well," Davis said. "Wish I had gotten my feet underneath me a little bit more. It was my first time playing on turf in a little while and being in front of the crowd. But I think I got tons of places to get better and will start stacking days."
