Many players have flashed throughout training camp, but here are three players/themes that have been trending up in the last week, which included a joint practice and game against the Commanders.

The Young RBs Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis
The Jets young rookie backs' impressive start to camp carried to their first NFL action. Allen led the team with 54 rushing yards and averaged 9.0 yards per carry while Davis flashed as a running back, receiver and returner.

"I felt like I ran the ball hard and was decisive," Allen said. "That's been my biggest point of emphasis since I got here. No matter what decision I make, make it at 100 percent. I feel like I did that, but other than that, just try to improve in every single way."

Davis' first two carries went for -1 yards and he helped the offense convert on third-and-11 the next play in the second quarter with a 24-yard catch-and-run over the middle that set up Green & White's first touchdown one play later. He finished with 76 total yards (33 receiving, 8 rushing, 35 returning).

"Everything went pretty well," Davis said. "I wish I had stayed up on my feet a little bit more, it was my first time playing on turf in a little while and first time being on the field. I think it's just going to get better and better."

C Joe Tippmann added of the pair: "That was awesome. Seeing them be able to cut it loose, they're some very hard running running backs. To see them have the success they did, it was a great feeling and I was hyping them up on the sidelines."

DE Will McDonald
After Thursday's joint practice with the Commanders, C.J. Mosley was asked about a player on defense who deserves more attention for the way he's been practicing. He said the second-year pass rusher Will McDonald, who had an impressive practice against Washington.

"He's been doing a great job," Mosley said. "The coaching staff asked him to put some weight on just to get better and stronger in the run game. He's been doing that he's been looking really good. Obviously his pass-rush game is phenomenal."

LB Quincy Williams added: "Man, he's taking a huge step. I'm very excited about him going against other teams and stuff like that because I'm looking for that spin move. That thing looks good for real."

That spin move came to fruition in the game as the former first-round pick quickly got to QB Jeff Driskel but was flagged for roughing the passer.

"I felt like it was pretty good," McDonald said of his preseason debut. "I came out expecting to make an impact from the first play to my last play. I definitely feel like I made an impact. I'm just out there playing ball and having fun."

WR Jason Brownlee
Head coach Robert Saleh said second-year WR Jason Brownlee started slowly in training camp before picking up steam. He made a handful of plays in practice last week, highlighted by a long touchdown grab from QB Tyrod Taylor.

"Obviously he's had more reps with me than any other guy, so I get a chance to see him and throw to him every day," Taylor said. "He's made a ton of plays. He has a very wide catch radius. I don't really think there's nothing that he can't do, it's just about him having an opportunity to go out there and do it and consistently do it."

Brownlee then scored the first Jets touchdown of the preseason with a 12-yard grab from QB Andrew Peasley where the wideout out of Southern Mississippi used his 6-3 frame to reach for the ball and keep both feet in bounds along the left side.

"I'm way more comfortable [in the offense]," Brownlee said last week. "The plays, they come easy to me now. That comes with just continuing to study, being on top of everything and never taking days off."
