Jets TE Kellen Winslow Suspended 4 Games by NFL

TE Kellen Winslow has been suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.

His suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to return to our active roster on Monday, Nov. 4, during our bye week, following the the team's Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints.

Newly acquired TE Zach Sudfeld will play and Konrad Reuland will see an expanded role as backups for Jeff Cumberland, head coach Rex Ryan said.

"We have a really good tight end in Jeff Cumberland," Ryan said. "The guy's a young stud tight end, big guy, can block and he does a nice job receiving. He's a good player."

Winslow, who has had a knee injury and had not practiced this week, was excused from today's practice at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center by Ryan before the announcement from the league came down late this afternoon.

Through the first five games of the season, Kellen Winslow has a team-leading 17 receptions for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He caught rookie QB Geno Smith's first pro touchdown pass, a 7-yarder, in the opening-day win over Tampa Bay, and added a tiptoe 1-yard TD catch from Smith to increase the Jets' lead to 27-14 en route to their 30-28 win at Atlanta on Monday night.
