After spending 4 years in Green Bay with the team that drafted him, C Josh Myers knew it was time for a change. The Jets offered him the best fit and a chance to reunite with his college quarterback.
"I spoke with my agent a lot about where we wanted to end up landing," Myers said. "The more we talked about it and the more we thought about it, the more the Jets just seemed like the perfect fit. For one, just everything I've got with Justin [Fields], just the camaraderie we have. Also, we like the direction the team's going in and we're really excited for it."
Myers played 17 games with Jets QB Justin Fields at Ohio State from 2019-20 for a combined record of 16-1. The pair won two Big Ten East titles, were First-Team All-Big Ten and were team captains together in 2020.
"I actually FaceTimed him as soon as I found out," Myers said of Fields. "He was, he was pumped. He was coming back from Dubai. I'm super pumped to play with him again."
Though Myers, 26, describes his own paly style as "physical" and "hard,", durable is another attribute. Myers was selected by the Packers in the second round (No. 62 overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft and started every game he played in Green Bay (56). Over the last 3 seasons, Myers took a minimum of 99% of all offensive snaps each season for a total of 3,188.
In the same year that Myers entered the league and became a staple for Green Bay's offense, Aaron Glenn became the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator. In the eight times the two teams went head-to-head in the last 4 years, Glenn's team held the upper hand 6-2. Myers is excited he's now on the same team as the defensive mastermind.
"I played against him when he was in Detroit quite a bit," Myers said. "I have a ton of respect for one, the way his defenses play, but two, just the X's and O's. He's clearly very smart. It was always a challenge going against that defense. I'm very excited."
For Myers, what's even more exciting than playing for Glenn is playing on the biggest stage with familiar faces for his fifth year in the NFL.
"For one, it'll be an entirely new experience," Myers said. "Coming from Green Bay, the smallest market, to really the biggest. It's going to be a cool experience. Also, like you said, getting to play with former teammates and getting another year in the league is just awesome."
