The Jets have completed a virtual interview with Lance Newmark for their general manager vacancy.
Newmark just completed his first regular season as assistant general manager of the Washington Commanders. Reporting directly to GM Adam Peters, Newmark oversees Washington's personnel and scouting departments.
The Commanders won 12 games this season for the first time since 1991, earning a postseason trip for the first time since 2020. QB Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall selection out of LSU, was a revelation in Year 1 while completing 69% of his passes for 3,568 yards with 25 TDs and 9 INTs. He also ran for 891 yards with 6 scores.
Newmark joined the Washington staff after a 26-year run with the Detroit Lions. Before leaving the Motor City, Newmark served as the senior director of player personnel for Detroit and helped oversee college and pro scouting operations. He also held roles with the Lions as director of player personnel (2016-21), director of college scouting (2015-16), assistant director of college scouting (2008-14), national scout (2005-07) and area scout (1999-2004).
Starting his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers, Newmark spent two seasons as a staff assistant under Hall of Fame GM Bobby Beathard. The Las Mesa, CA, native played WR at San Diego Mesa College before transferring to the University of San Diego. Newmark has a degree in social sciences.
Jets Chairman Woody Johnson is leading the searches for a head coach and general manager. He hired The 33rd Team in a support role to help identify and vet candidates in addition to coordinate interviews.
