The New York Jets have waived linebacker Eddie Jones and safety DeAngelo Smith. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Jones (6'3", 260) played in one game for the Jets, at New England on Oct. 9, 2011, and spent time on both the Jets and Rams practice squads in 2011. Jones rejoined the Jets as a reserve/future free agent on Jan. 19.
Smith (5'11", 200) entered the NFL as a fifth-round selection by Dallas in the 2009 draft. Smith spent time with the Cowboys, Browns, Bears and Lions and saw action in seven games with Detroit during the 2009 season. He signed with the Jets as a free agent on April 16.
