The New York Jets have signed linebacker Josh Mauga from the practice squad, waived defensive tackle Howard Green and signed linebacker Kenwin Cummings to the practice squad. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Mauga (6'1", 245) was signed to the Jets practice squad on Sept. 6 after being waived on Sept. 4. He originally signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent on Aug. 16, 2009. A four-year starter at Nevada, Mauga totaled 54 tackles, 7.5 for loss and 3.5 sacks his senior year in 2008.
Cummings (6'3", 230) initially joined the club as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2008 and was inactive for the season opener before being signed to the Jets' practice squad for the remainder of the season. After spending the first nine weeks of the 2009 season on the practice squad, he was added to the 53-man roster on Nov. 16 and earned his NFL debut on special teams in the AFC Wild Card Playoff Game at Cincinnati. He saw action on special teams in three games this season before being waived on Friday.
Green (6'2", 350) was signed by the Jets on Oct. 4 after being released on Sept. 30. He was previously waived by the Washington Redskins on Sept. 4. Green has played two games with the Jets this season, recording one forced fumble at Miami. Last season he played 12 games for the Jets and recorded 37 tackles. For his NFL career, Green has played 50 games, registering 118 tackles, one sack, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. A sixth-round selection of the Houston Texans in the 2002 draft, Green has also seen action in regular-season games for Baltimore (2002), New Orleans (2003-04) and Seattle (2007-08).
