Hey Jets fans!
I am so proud and grateful to say I just finished my rookie year as a member of the New York Jets Flight Crew Cheerleaders. I can honestly say it hasn't been easy, but it has been much more than I could have ever imagined.
When I was 19 years old and a freshman in college, I decided to go out and audition for the Jets Flight Crew. I did not make that year, or even the next. The second time I auditioned, I made it all the way down to finals, but I didn't make the team.
Although I was crushed that I did not make it, I knew that I had what it takes to be a part of the Flight Crew. I decided that I would dedicate the year to preparing for the next year's audition. I told myself that I WOULD make it in 2012 because I was so close the last time!
I worked so hard, from taking dance classes, going to the gym, joining Zumba classes, and creating a fun and healthy diet for myself. The year flew by and 2012 auditions were here. I went into auditions so confident but also so nervous after seeing all the girls who also wanted a spot on the Flight Crew.
I made it through preliminaries, semifinals, and onto finals once again. At the end of finals I was praying and hoping Denise would call my name and she did! All my hard work has paid off and the three years of misfortune have turned into a dream come true.
Although the season has just ended, auditions are right around the corner. It may be considered "offseason" but I am still doing everything I can to prepare for auditions. To dance your best, you have to feel and look your best.
To all the girls out there thinking of auditioning, GO FOR IT! If you haven't made it in past years, or are nervous about what it may be like, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Being a part of the Jets Flight Crew is such an honor and a life-changing experience. I could not be more blessed and I am only here because I never gave up. I could have easily said after the first or even the second time that I auditioned that I was not cut out to be a cheerleader, but here I am now.
You CAN and WILL achieve what you set out to do. The only time you fail is when you have given up.
Love,
Nancy
