Safety Jamal Adams, the Jets' first-round pick of the 2017 draft, has signed his rookie contract. All nine of the Jets' selections in April's draft are now signed.
Adams (6'1", 213) was the sixth overall pick of the draft out of LSU, where he had been described by some analysts as the best prospect in the draft and by some Bayou Bengals watchers as one of the team's best on-field leaders in years.
What he wanted to get out of the offseason, Adams said, is "becoming that team player, building relationships with my teammates and learning the coaching staff, just trying to be well-rounded as a football player and a person. So I'm just doing everything they ask me to do."
Adams had one interception and four pass defenses as an LSU junior last season but also committed zero penalties. He was named LSU's permanent team captain in 2016 and received various All-America first- and second-team honors and All-SEC first-team honors from The Associated Press.
For his three-season Tigers career, he played in 37 games (26 starts) with five INTs, 14 PDs, two forced fumbles and one recovery, 209 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
July not surprisingly is the month that most Jets first-round choices sign in. Since 1990, the team has had 31 first-rounders, with four signing in May, three in June, 19 in July and five in August. Here are the signing dates of the Jets' last 10 Round 1 picks:
