It was a Thanksgiving to forget for anyone associated with the Jets.
The Green & White turned the ball over five times and all five turnovers led to Patriots TDs in a Holiday rout. In a forgettable 52 second span in the second quarter, the Patriots stunned the home faithful with three touchdowns. The visitors, a club that came in averaging 35.8 points per game, scored on offense, defense and special teams Thursday night.
There we no answers anywhere as the Jets fell to 4-7 and dropped their third game at home in 2012 by at least 21 points. Amazingly this contest was scoreless after the first quarter.
But then a historically disastrous second quarter followed. On the first play of the second stanza, Wes Welker got free in the corner of the end zone to open up the scoring. That came despite a three-man rush on third-and-3 and culminated a 15-play, 84-yard drive that started when Mark Sanchez was intercepted by S Steve Gregory.
The floodgates started to open when Gregory recovered a Shonn Greene fumble and went down at the NE 17. Tom Brady went to Shane Vereene for an 84-yard scoring gallop up the Pats sideline to make it 14-0. A busted play followed and Mark Sanchez ran right into RG Brandon Moore, fumbled and Gregory raced in from 32 yards out. Joe McKnight took out the ensuing kickoff, got popped by DB Devin McCourty at about the 20 and Julian Edelman picked out the ball the air before scooting in from 22 yards out.
It was over. If this was a boxing match, the ref would have stopped it. The Jets knew they had to play a clean game in order to give themselves a chance and they had turned it over four times in rapid fire fashion. The score was 28-0 and the 4 TDs came in 6:03.
They turned it over a fifth time in the second half, leading to points to as Stevan Ridely went in untouched for a 9-yard TD. The Pats finished with 49 points and the Jets lost by a 30 point margin.
