The New York Jets have waived WR Patrick Turner. They also made five practice squad transactions, signing LB Cody Brown, DT Jarron Gilbert and RB Chauncey Washington and releasing LB Ricky Foley and S Donovan Warren. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Brown (6'3", 252) was drafted in the second round, 63rd overall, of the 2009 draft by Arizona. After spending his rookie season on injured reserve, he was waived by the Cardinals last Friday. Brown started 33 of his 42 career games at Connecticut, recording 150 tackles, 24 sacks and 45.5 tackles for loss. In 2008 he was named the Huskies' Defensive MVP after starting all 13 games and posting a career-high 56 tackles and 11 sacks.
Gilbert (6'5", 285) was drafted by Chicago in the third round, 68th overall, in 2009. He was waived by the Bears last Saturday. He played in four games for Chicago in 2009, seeing time on defense and special teams. Gilbert started 38 of his 48 career games at San Jose State. He was a first-team All-American in 2008 and is San Jose State's all-time leader with 22.5 sacks.
