The New York Jets have sign running back Jonathan Grimes from the Houston Texans practice squad. The Jets have also signed cornerback Donnie Fletcher to the practice squad. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Grimes (5'10", 209) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Houston on May 14. He was waived following the preseason Aug. 31 before signing with the Texans practice squad three days later. In the 2012 preseason, Grimes carried 28 times for 130 yards (4.6-yard average) and one touchdown. He left William & Mary as the school's all-time leader in rushing attempts (936), rushing yards (4,541), all-purpose yards (7,955) and kickoff-return yards (2,289) and earned 11 all-conference honors, the most in Colonial Athletic Association history.
Fletcher (6'1", 195) was waived by the Jets on Monday after they had signed him from their practice squad on Saturday. He joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent on May 4. In four seasons at Boston College, he played in 51 games (30 starts) and collected 178 tackles and 11 interceptions.
