We've moved past the halfway point with our predraft position-by-position presentation with Monday's posting of Eric Allen's linebackers story and videos of nine of the top 'backers available in the draft, now less than a month away.
That's the fourth out of seven positions. Thursday we'll direct our predraft spotlight onto the offensive linemen at the top of this draft. Then next week we'll wrap up our position papers with stories and videos on the defensive line next Monday and the all-important wide receivers/tight ends a week from Thursday.
Something else to look for this week will be Real Football Services' first mock draft for newyorkjets.com, which we've scheduled for Wednesday, April 1 — no fool. Real picks a player for each team in Round 1, including the Jets at No. 17. Hint: The player they've targeted is a good-hands man.
In the coming weeks, Real will also provide you all with its Round 2 mock and its final Round 1 mock in the final days before the draft opens for business Saturday, April 25.
To whet your appetite for Real's mock soup, it should be noted that Pat Kirwan has juggled some positions in his **Mock Draft 5.0** that went up on nfl.com on Monday. PK now has Kansas State QB Josh Freeman going to the Green & White, with Penn State WR Derrick Williams as the Jets' projected second-round pick.
Why did Pat move off of WR Jeremy Maclin to the Jets? That's one of those falling-dominoes things: He has the Bengals at No. 6 overlooking Alabama T Andre Smith's issues to go for the long-armed O-lineman. Then he had the 49ers at No. 10, originally the Smith takers, shifting to Maclin. Ergo: Josh to the Jets.
