After playing 14 offensive snaps last Thursday against the Patriots, the first of his pro career, Jets rookie tackle Olu Fashanu will check another box this Sunday at home versus the Broncos when he makes his first career start at right tackle.

Late in the third quarter of the Jets' 24-3 victory over New England, RT Morgan Moses had his left leg rolled up and left the contest with a knee injury. Fashanu, the Jets first-round pick in April's draft (No.11 overall), played in relief.

Fashanu, according to Pro Football Focus, allowed no pressures or sacks over 6 pass blocking snaps and received a 70.8 offensive grade, sixth highest on the team and second to C Joe Tippmann among the linemen.

Wednesday, HC Robert Saleh announced Moses would miss "a couple" of games while he recovers from a knee injury.

"I mean obviously it sucks for someone like Morgan to go down," Fashanu said. "He is someone that means so much to this team, the offense, and the o-line room, but everyone just has that next man up mentality, so for me it was all about just going out there, doing the job to the best of my ability."

Fashanu play 1,347 snaps at left tackle during his 4 seasons at Penn State and none at right tackle. The 21-year-old lineman, however, spent a portion of training camp playing right tackle, including 29 snaps against the Panthers in the preseason. In addition, over the first three weeks of the regular season, he played right tackle for the scout team.

"He's been getting a lot of reps," Saleh said. "We got him a lot of reps in the second half of camp at right. Obviously, he got more comfortable as camp went on, so we've got a lot of faith in Olu to go out and execute."

Four-time MVP QB Aaron Rodgers, Wednesday, compared Fashanu to Jets Ring of Honor member D'Brickashaw Ferguson, who he went against three-times in his career. Ferguson, three-time Pro Bowler at left tackle, was known for his consistency. From the day he was drafted No. 4 overall by the Jets in 2006 to his retirement after the 2015 season, he started in 160 of the 160 games the Green & White played.

"He is similar personality wise and his consistency," Rodgers said. "I didn't play with Brick, but I know people that did, and I always remember he wasn't getting beat a lot, he was always in the right place, and good in the run game.

"The game has never been too big for Olu. I feel like he has been consistent every day. If he makes a mistake, he doesn't repeat it. His attitude is very quiet, and he goes about his business. I think he is in a good spot. He has played a lot of left tackle but played some right for us during training camp and for the look team the first three weeks. I am very confident in him."

Fashanu knows the importance of keeping the Jets' No. 8 upright. Since he arrived at One Jets Drive for OTAs and rookie minicamp, he has been picking the brains of the more veteran linemen, such as LT Tyron Smith and Moses, to learn what it takes.

"It's definitely a huge responsibility protecting someone like Aaron," Fashanu said. "But again. just like you said, just the way that he's able to instill confidence inside the offense. Obviously, I still feel a lot of responsibility, but he's just the type of guy that really gets you riled up and ready to go."
