The Jets concluded the first quarter of their season with a 31-6 defeat to the Eagles. Let's dive into the snap count to see how the playing time was distributed.
OFFENSE
Through the first quarter of the season, the Jets have run an average of 62.5 plays per game. They ran 59 plays on offense in Philadelphia. The five members of the offensive line were the only players on that side of the ball on field for every snap (59 total): Kelvin Beachum, Alex Lewis, Ryan Kalil, Brian Winters and Chuma Edoga. By comparison, there were eight offensive players who played the entire game against New England in Week 3. Beachum and Winters are the only two members of the offense to have been on the field for every snap this season. Lewis and Edoga, this year's third-round pick, both saw their first action of the year in the starting lineup, subbing for Kelechi Osemele and Brandon Shell, respectively. Jonotthan Harrison was in on a pair of plays, lining up in the backfield as a lead blocker.
For the second time this season, the Jets had two quarterbacks see game action (Week 2 vs. Cleveland). Luke Falk, who made his second consecutive start, completed 15-of-26 passes for 120 yards with a pair of interceptions. Falk took all but four snaps (55/59, 93%) before giving way to David Fales (4 snaps), who made his debut in green and white.
Le'Veon Bell was his usual workhorse self against the Eagles, playing 52 of 59 snaps (88%) while totaling a team-high 88 yards from scrimmage. Fellow running back Ty Montgomery was in for eight plays (14%), while veteran Bilal Powell saw action on two plays.
For the first time this season, the Jets had five wide receivers see action in a game. Demaryius Thomas returned from a one-game absence and led all wideouts with 46 snaps (78%) while pulling in four catches for a team-high 47 yards. Robby Anderson was not far behind with 45 plays (76%). Vyncint Smith made the most of his Jets debut, scoring the team's only touchdown on a 19-yard end-around, despite taking part in just seven snaps. Jamison Crowder (32/59, 54%) and Josh Bellamy (11/59, 19%) rounded out the receiving corps.
Ryan Griffin continued to lead all tight ends in playing time as he was in for all but two plays (57/59, 97%). Griffin has played at least 90% of the snaps in every game this season, his first as a Jet. Rookie Trevon Wesco received his most playing time of the season (19/59, 32%) and Daniel Brown was in on 14 plays (24%) as well.
DEFENSE
The Jets defense was on field for 68 plays against the Eagles, which marks a season-low for the unit. Just two players were in on 100% of the snaps, which is also a season-low: Jamal Adams and Neville Hewitt. Adams registered six tackles along with one pass defense and Hewitt led the team with 10 tackles, including one for loss and a quarterback hit. Hewitt has been on the field for all but one snap through the first four weeks.
Six defensive lineman were once again active Sunday and the unit welcomed back rookie Quinnen Williams after a two-game absence. The 2019 No. 3 overall pick was in on 53 of 68 plays (78%) and registered five tackles. Leonard Williams led the group in playing time, logging 81% of the snaps (55/68). Rookie Kyle Phillips continues to see steady playing time, logging 45 snaps (66%) and the undrafted free agent recorded a tackle for loss in addition to a pair of QB hits. Steve McLendon (36/68, 53%) picked up the team's lone sack Sunday and Jordan Willis (32 snaps, 47%) saw his first action of the season. Henry Anderson was limited to just four plays before departing with a shoulder injury.
Tarell Basham continued his steady play for the Jets outside linebackers, totaling five tackles, two of which were tackles for loss (52/68, 76%). Rookie Blake Cashman (51 snaps, 75%) also collected five tackles. Harvey Langi (7/68, 10%) and Frankie Luvu (6 plays, 9%) also saw action.
Marcus Maye and Darryl Roberts had been the only two members of the defense to play every snap this season until Sunday when each came off the field for one play (67/68, 99%). Maye registered five tackles, while Roberts registered a pair of his own plus a quarterback hit. Trumaine Johnson returned to the starting lineup opposite Roberts, playing all but one snap (67, 99%). Brian Poole was in for 66 of 68 snaps (97%) and picked up four tackles. Rontez Miles saw action on three plays for the secondary.
SPECIAL TEAMS
On special teams, standout Rontez Miles led the way with 27 snaps while Harvey Langi was close behind with 26. Albert McClellan and Josh Bellamy were next up with 22 and 21, respectively. Trenton Cannon was in on 18 plays and averaged 23 yards on a pair of kick returns. Cannon also recovered a muffed punt that set the Jets up for their lone score of the game. Lachlan Edwards had a strong day punting the ball, averaging 50.9 yards per punt and pinning three inside the Philadelphia's 20-yard line.
