The Jets have waived undrafted rookie tight end Brian Linthicum. The announcement was made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Linthicum, the 6'5", 245-pounder out of Michigan State, was one of the 10 undrafted free agents signed by the Jets immediately after the 2012 draft. But he was sidelined early in the offseason period with a quadriceps injury and wasn't able to work in any team drills through the full-squad minicamp that ended in mid-June.
The 24-year-old Linthicum began his college career at Clemson but transferred in 2008 and began a three-year career with the Spartans in '09. In his three seasons he had 69 receptions for 860 yards (12.5-yard average) and three touchdowns.
With the waiving of Linthicum, the Jets' roster is at 87 players with a little more than three weeks before they travel to Central New York and report to training camp at SUNY Cortland.
