TEBOW: We've Seen What This 'O' Can Be

Transcript of quarterback Tim Tebow's news conference following the Jets' Monday afternoon practice at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center:

On the offensive struggles…

I feel like every day we're getting better. I think today at practice we showed some good things. We did some good things out there, we hit some big plays and we have to keep getting more consistent and limit the negative plays.

On if the team has lost any confidence…

I don't think so at all. In an offense, everyone has to be on the same page, all 11 on every play. That's how you get good execution. So we just have to continue to have good communication.

On if the quarterbacks have to remind the team to stay focused…

I don't have to remind anybody. We're all very positive and focused and getting better every single day and that's all you can ask for.

On what he saw when reviewing the tape…

I think on some of the rhythm and timing passes we actually did really well on those. On some of them, we have to throw the ball away or find backs quicker and have some better timing with some of the inside receivers. Overall, just have great communication, when the quarterback is on the line, just being able to communicate those things, I think that will be a big help.

On what Coach Sparano said to the team…

Well Coach Sparano is always extremely positive and extremely passionate. He always believes in his group. So today was one more opportunity for us to go out there and get better and I feel like overall, we had a very intense and passionate practice and I think we did some things really well and got better today.

On if the offense needs positive reinforcement when they are learning…

Yeah, obviously that would be extremely nice, but at the same point I think we've seen that and when we do it right we have seen how good it can be and in practice we see when we do it right how good it can be on some of the big plays, and executing, the ground and pound, and play action over the top. So we've seen what this offense can be and what we can be.

On them not scoring a touchdown this preseason…

Well, you know we're going to continue to get better and thankfully these don't count. So we just have to keep getting better each day and stay focused, stay together, and that won't change.

On if he attends the special teams meetings…

Yeah, I try to attend some of the meetings.

On if he attends those more than other meetings…

It depends on exactly what's going on that day, but ill attend a lot of them.

On working on snaps with different centers…

We're getting there, we're doing pretty well I think.

On if he feels comfortable with all the centers…

I feel like it. I obviously feel more comfortable with some centers, because that's who you usually go with, but I feel like all of them know their job, do it very well, and I feel pretty comfortable with all of them.

On how much freedom he has with calling audibles…

They've given me some freedom back there. It's a lot of confidence they have put in me to make the right decisions, and to get us in the right protection calls.

On if he is confident in calling audibles…

Yeah, I feel confident doing that. Still it's just reading people and players and number counts and things like that. It's just something you do as a quarterback a lot.

On if he had audible options when he was at quarterback during the game…

Yeah, we had some looks that we were getting out of, based on what they were doing, so we had different audibles we could call during the game.

On if he is surprised how much action he is getting on special teams…

No, not really. I figured I was probably going to get more than I have, but for the most part its been pretty good.

On if they have thought about running a fake punt this preseason…

Yeah, it's crossed our mind, but based on the way the games have been played, it's been pretty conservative so far, and that makes it easier to get our gunners down and tackle some punts. So if we keep playing like that we should have a pretty good punt average.

On when he expects to get his first tackle on special teams…

I don't know, we'll see [laughing].

On how he'll react after the tackle…

I'll probably get up and run to the sidelines, I don't know.

On if he expected to play the whole second half…

I mean, I don't know. I tried to come in with no pre-conceived ideas of what was going to happen. Just do whatever they needed me to do, go out there and play. The second half went by pretty fast, so I was thankful to get all that time and just try to get better with it.
