A few months after the Buffalo Bills signed T.O., the Jets today announced the signing of R.O. That's Richard Owens.
The Jets moved quickly in replacing Bubba Franks, released Monday, on their 80-man training camp roster, announcing the signing of Owens, a big blocking tight end, late this afternoon.
Owens is a fifth-year TE, 28 years old, who checks in at 6'4" and 273 pounds. Reports at the time said he had visits with the Jets and the Bills before April's draft.
Owens entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville signed by Minnesota after the 2004 draft and played three seasons and 39 games (six starts) for the Vikings.
He was waived by the Vikes and signed by the St. Louis Rams on Sept. 12, 2007, and appeared in 14 games (one start) for the Rams. He was out of the NFL last season after the Rams released him on Aug. 31.
For his career, Owens has 17 catches for 141 yards (8.3-yard avg.) and one touchdown. He also has long-snapping experience.
