Transcript of interviews with selected Jets players during the locker room media period before Thursday's afternoon practice:
WR JERRICHO COTCHERY
On the Jets' offensive weapons …
We have a lot of weapons on offense, so any chance you have to make a play, you have to do everything in your power to make that play. You never know when you are going to see the ball again because we have a lot of weapons on offense.
On whether defenses are focusing on stopping him more after last season's breakout performance …
I thought teams would be more aware of everything I did last year, but it isn't the case. I'm still seeing some of the same looks I saw last year. It is up to me to get open and I hope it continues to be that way. Teams are still paying a lot of attention to Laveranues [Coles], so I'm getting those same opportunities and just trying to make the best of them.
On the importance of getting a win at Buffalo …
Getting back to even ground would mean a lot. It is just like you started the season again. We don't want to be 1-3 because you are fighting an uphill battle anytime you have a losing record. If we can get back to that even keel, then we can continue to make the progress we've been making instead of playing catchup.
S KERRY RHODES
On Bills running back Marshawn Lynch …
He is tough. He doesn't really go down on first contact. All good backs don't go down on first contact. He can make you miss in the backfield. He is quick and he is a tough runner. He's going to be tough for us.
On whether the key to the game will be stopping the Bills running game …
I wish we could say that we can just focus on that one thing, but we can't. With the weapons they have at receiver, even though they have not clicked yet, they can. We saw it last year first-hand. You can't relax on their passing game at all.
On the Jets' defensive struggles …
We don't want to follow the same path [as last season] where in the first half of the season we struggled and the second half we got better. We don't want to do that. We want to get off to a fast start this year. We can still rectify that right now. It's only the fourth game and we have a chance to get better. That is what we will do.
RB LEON WASHINGTON
On his role in the offense …
I'm just trying to do what I need to do to help this team win. Going out there and getting a chance to make plays for the team is big. That is all I can look for and that is all we can ask for as a team.
On last season's loss to Buffalo …
It was big losing to those guys late in the season at home because we had to make a push to get into the playoffs by trying to win the last couple of games. They are a feisty and good group. They have some veteran guys over there. They are really good on defense. They will be ready to play when the ball is kicked off.
On how picking up a win has helped the team …
We gained confidence in our preparation realizing what that does for us with how much we prepare. How well we prepare definitely helps us out going into a game. We are gaining confidence in the preparation for when we go into the game.
On the Bills special teams …
They look good with [Sam] Aiken, [Mario] Haggan, [John] DiGiorgio and all of those guys leading that group. They are a veteran group of guys that have been around there for a long time. They know how to play special teams. It will definitely be a tough task going into the game this weekend.
