Most people's favorite season is dependent upon the weather, but for Jets linebacker Darron Lee, his favorite season is dependent upon football pads.
"I'm sure everybody was pretty excited today. It's the best time of the year in my personal opinion," Lee said of the first padded practice of training camp. "Everybody I know has some juice. You have to find a way to get some juice going amongst your guys, so why not hoot and holler."
The Ohio State product is starting to become one of the leaders of the defense as he started to call plays in certain sub-packages towards the end of 2016.
"Absolutely," he said when asked if he feels his voice is heard. "I know the playbook pretty much backwards and forwards now. I'm really comfortable. I feel way more comfortable unlike last year when I felt lost on some stuff."
The 6'0", 232-pound Lee ran with the first-team defense throughout the spring and continued to do so through the first three days of training camp. Last year, he finished fourth on the team last year with 76 tackles in 13 games (nine starts). Entering 2017, he has one goal.
"Definitely just improve from last year," Lee said. "Do a better job of putting my team in the best position to win. That's really all I'm focused on."
