The Jets have invited three veteran free agents — TE Kellen Winslow Jr., WR Mike Sims-Walker and DL Leger Douzable — to participate at this week's full-squad minicamp on a tryout basis.
Two other free agents eligible for this year's NFL Draft, tackle Mark Jackson and CB Mason Robinson, have also been invited to try out at this minicamp.
Winslow is an eight-year pro. He began his NFL career as a first-round selection (sixth overall) out of Miami by Cleveland in 2004. He played for the Browns from 2004-08 and for the Buccaneers from 2009-11. Tampa Bay traded him to Seattle in May 2012, the Seahawks released him in September, and he signed with New England for Game 3 at Baltimore, where he caught one pass for 12 yards, before the Patriots released him.
For his career, Winslow has 438 receptions for 4,848 yards (11.1-yard average) and 23 touchdowns.
Winslow will be working at the position where fourth-year man Jeff Cumberland returns, along with second-year players Konrad Reuland and Hayden Smith. They have been joined by undrafted rookie free agents Chris Pantale and Mike Shanahan.
Shanahan is not related to Washington head coach Mike Shanahan. But Winslow is the son of Kellen Winslow, who enjoyed a Pro Football Hall of Fame career as the nine-year TE for the Chargers.
Sims-Walker was the Jaguars' third-round selection in the 2008 draft and has 134 receptions for 1,798 yards (13.4 average) and 14 TDs in his four pro seasons. Douzable played in 43 games with seven starts for the Rams in 2009 and the Jaguars in 2010-11.
The minicamp will be held Tuesday through Thursday, June 11-13, at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, N.J. Season ticket holders are invited exclusively to attend Tuesday's practice and all fans are invited to Wednesday's practice. However, in the event of inclement weather, practice will be closed to the public.
