10 Things to Watch For On Monday Night
During Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears, the Jets will be holding a First Responders Night. As part of the event, over 200 first responders and three FDNY Captains will join the Jets Walk at 6 p.m. as well as others throughout the game.
The 2014 class for the Ring of Honor will be announced against the Bears. The induction will occur during the the second Monday Night home game against Miami on Dec. 1.
In two weeks this season, Bears RB Matt Forte has averaged 102.5 yards from scrimmage per game. LB Quinton Coples said that Forte's ability to run the ball and catch it makes him difficult to defend: "We just have to pay attention to detail. He does a great job on some of the screens that they run. We got to be aware of that. As far as running, we just have to continue to play our line assignments and execute."
CB Dee Milliner played 40 snaps at Green Bay in his return from a high ankle sprain he suffered on Aug. 10. He said the ankle tightened up through the course of the game and was forced to remove himself in the third quarter. He said he's feeling better this week, so look for Dee to make an impact in his 2014 home debut.
DE Muhammad Wilkerson was ejected against Green Bay after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty with 5:45 left in the third quarter. He apologized to the team immediately following the 31-24 loss. Through two games he has three tackles and no sacks. Expect Mo to come on strong in this game.
Definitely keep your eyes on CB Kyle Wilson in this game. Wilson, who normally plays in the slot, could be matched up with former Jet Santonio Holmes on Monday night. If he's not matched up against Holmes, it could be WR Brandon Marshall, who also lines up in the slot on some plays.
RB Chris Johnson, who was drafted the same year as Bears RB Matt Forte had a tough time at Green Bay last Sunday. He ran for 21 yards on 12 carries. Look for Johnson to make more of an impact in this contest.
With Eric Decker's hamstring injury holding him out of practice this week, WR Greg Salas will be asked to step up, which is no concern for this offense, according to RG Willie Colon: "We have all the confidence in the world. We love Greg and we know what he's capable of. He has a great resume, he's hardworking and he's young. He's going to get it done."
KR Saalim Hakim found success in the opener when returning kicks, including a 44-yard return to open the 2014 season for the Green & White. He struggled a bit in the game against Green Bay, but look for him to right the ship on Monday.
While on the subject of returns, PR/WR Jalen Saunders is tied for the most fair catches (5) in the league through two weeks. Watch out for the rookie fielding punts in this one.
