Get To Know: Adams & McFadden

McFadden was a 2013 third-round pick for the Cleveland Browns. He spent the offseason with Browns head coach Mike Pettine, the Jets former defensive coordinator and friend of Jets coach Rex Ryan. 

Last season with the Browns, McFadden made 16 appearances and two starts, including 13 tackles and one pass defensed. He also had three sacks during his career. 

At San Diego State University, McFadden had a prolific career, accumulating 47 PDs and eight interceptions. He was named to the All-Mountain West Conference for three consecutive years (sophomore-senior).

His father, also named Leon, played professional baseball as a shortstop and outfielder for the Houston Astros. 

During the preseason he had 12 total tackles playing in Browns' head coach Mike Pettine's system, which is similar to the one he'll be playing with the Jets. 

CB Phillip Adams was drafted in the seventh round (No. 244 overall) of the 2010 draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He's played for the 49ers, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, and Oakland Raiders. He returned to Seattle this offseason before being cut. 

He played fairly well in the preseason with Seattle, making eight tackles including one for a loss and had one pass defensed.

Adams will be seeing his old team, Oakland, for a second consecutive week after playing the rookie QB Derrick Carr-led Raiders team. Carr threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Denarius Moore with Adams covering. Adams is looking forward to having another opportunity against Carr: "We kinda got a little thing going on. He came at me last week and I'm looking forward to the matchup. That's definitely something I'm looking forward to. I pretty much know a lot of the things their doing…"

The terminology of the defense is one thing he's trying his hardest to get down on Sunday. Cornerback play is an important part of Rex Ryan's defense and Adams is looking learn it as fast as he can: "It's going to be hard, but I'm going to try. I'm definitely going to try. Who knows? If I slip up on some calls, as far as the terminology, hopefully we can fix that. It's a process for the terminology so I'm going to keep learning everything I need to."

Traditionally, Adams has played in the slot for most of his career. He's willing to play on the outside also, but the slot, he said, is his favorite place to play: "I actually do both, I love doing both. I love the slot, just to be able to match up with these slot receivers. I like doing that. Third down is a big down and just to be in the slot, I feel like I will be able to guard those guys."
